We are pleased to be resuming our leather courses from the 15th July onwards. We are keeping the courses small with a maximum of three people, which ensures we can take all necessary precautions to ensure safety and compliance with government guidelines.

Diamond Awl Workshop presents practical leather courses.   All tuition is based around traditional leatherwork skills and you will learn all you need to know about making premium leather goods, from wallets to leather bags.    Our leather courses take place in an authentic leather workshop, conveniently situated in Saddleworth, within easy reach of Manchester and Leeds.

“What a brilliant course!!
Many thanks for the course this weekend. I enjoyed it immensely, and have been ruminating over what should be my first project!
Thank you for the links and I have forwarded it to Kat as I don’t think I passed her email onto you , hope that’s okay.
Everyone was amazed at the quality of our work ( especially the hand stitching). We are both suitably proud of our bags .”

“What a brilliant course!!
My husband bought me the two day course as a very inspired Christmas present even though I had never done any leather work before. I’d tried all sorts of different crafts from upholstery to rush weaving but the two days spent with Jason in his workshop was inspirational. He has such enthusiasm and a real love of his craft which is very infectious. He is happy to share his knowledge and teach the skills required to make a truly amazing bag you can’t believe you actually made yourself! Jason is very patient and his studio has a very relaxed atmosphere with great views over the hills.
A hugely enjoyable and therapeutic two days well spent….. I shall be back for more!”
“We were looking for a course where we could make our own bag, while learning as many basic skills as possible, without breaking the bank. That is exactly what we got… and more! Jason is an excellent tutor in giving you personal attention specific to your needs, and great encouragement along the way. His work studio is a fantastic space to feel creative within, helping to make the whole experience very memorable. We’ve come away with many ideas and can’t wait to start putting what we learned into practice. If you’re looking for a great kick-start into leathercraft and bag making then we would highly recommend Jason and his courses as the way to go.”

I was completely inexperienced and by the end of the day, with thanks to Jason’s encouragement and patience I managed to produce a lovely finished item of which I am very proud.
Thanks again Jason for all your help. Hope to be back in the future for the 2 day workshop.”

“This has to be the best course that I have been on!   The amount of information and skills that I learnt in one day was brilliant. From the tanning process, to types of leather, tools, planning and techniques, to making my very own unique item which I am very proud of!
All thanks to Jason, who is a fantastic teacher, very patient, gives you all the confidence you need to succeed and was open to my ideas 🙂 and what a wonderful relaxed space to work in, I can’t wait to go back and learn some more. Thank you Jason.”

This is a brilliant course!
Jason is enthusiastic and knowledgeable and has an inspiring studio in which the course takes place. The course offers an excellent balance of instruction, demonstration and time to put this into operation which means that the finished product is something to be proud of.
The range of suggested artefacts to be made allows for a wide range of skills to be explored and executed and to be applied in further projects.

The one day course I did was simply fantastic! Highly professionally taught and I was amazed at how much I learnt in such a short time. I walked away with a beautiful notebook cover which has become one of my prized possessions. I can’t believe I made it myself – with a little help ; )
Thank you so much Jason

“The 2 day course exceeded my expectations in all areas. A beautiful, inspiring work space, a choice of projects, a choice of leathers, a fabulous teacher all combined to ensure I left with a host of new skills, a new hobby, and a messenger bag that I am exceptionally proud of, and which looks highly professional. I’ve already had compliments about it, no one can believe I made it (myself included!) and I know that it will still look as good in years to come. I have no hesitation in recommending, and I’m already planning on attending the tote bag course. Thank you Jason, this is the best craft course experience I’ve had. See you again soon I hope.”
Claire Wiseman
“An excellent weekend course and I was very pleased with the bag that I made.
I had no prior leatherwork experience but Jason is a very enthusiastic, patient and encouraging tutor and I now feel confident to continue on my own.”

“….Thanks  for Saturday, I had a great day and learned so much. Your work space was one of the coolest places I’ve been to for a while and it was definitely an inspiration and motivation to come across somebody who has actually followed their passion, lets hope I can show the same courage!”

“A truly unforgettable day with Jason in his wonderful workshop. Myself and my family learnt everything we could ever wish to know about leather, tooling, dying and stitching in what was a day that flew by as we were having so much fun.
The knowledge, patience and enthusiasm from Jason was inspiring and we’ll definitely be going back.”

“Thanks so much to you and for the fantastic course. Jason was a great teacher, very patient and inspirational, and together with fabulous hospitality and a relaxed atmosphere, it really was a first class course. I woke up on Monday morning feeling genuinely sorry that I wouldn’t be spending the day working with leather in your wonderful workshop. I can’t wait to apply my newly learned skills and get started on another project”
Cheryl Kellett
