Here I am burnishing the edges of a bag made of vegetable tanned leather and just using a little water. You can use other burnishing agents such as gum tragacanth and beeswax depending in the leather and finish. DAY 07: Hole Punch Machine This leather belt and DAY 07: Hole Punch Machine This leather belt and strap hole punching machine is great for high level accuracy and I use it when I’m doing a lot of belts and bag straps. Strap widths can be between 1/2 to 4-1/8 inches wide and you can also set the hole spacing and hole size. I particularly like the mechanical repetition and the hand crank wheel gives a good controls and sounds like some kind of old vintage machine when it punches through the leather to make the holes. Usually used on harness/bridle work, and saddlers would often make other products such as belts etc, and use of the crease line was used. DAY 03: Clicker Knife This is a traditional shoe m DAY 03: Clicker Knife This is a traditional shoe maker's clicker knife, made by Barnsleys of Sheffield.  It's great for cutting curves and pattern pieces accurately as it's such a well balanced and precise tool. The handle is wood turned at Barnsley’s and I love the deep mahogany colour. It has metal jaws which open and close by turning the central ferrule, in order to fit the blade. The tip has a nice diameter to both hold a good amount of edge paint and not inhibit precision. DAY 01: Vintage Plough Gauge Couldn’t believe my luck when I found this beauty in an antique shop many years ago. It’s a plough gauge made by H Brindley in 1915, either Birmingham or Sheffield. I use it all the time for cutting straps and belts. I love the level of quality after all these years and it feels very natural to use.
