Just wanted to share the fabulous work of a recent student, who started off with the two day leather bag making course, making a messenger bag and recently returned to make a tote bag.
The messenger bag made on the Diamond Awl course is a modern take on a messenger bag and is neat design that comfortably fits A4 and is great for everyday use.
The leather used was a beautiful light tan satchel leather, which is robust enough to hold it’s shape and has a really premium look and feel. The student had a choice of fixings and strap type and went with brass fixings and an adjustable belt strap. We added an inside pocket with a useful snaphook to hold keys on the inside.
On returning to make a tote bag, the student already had some great skills. This time, we decided on a beautiful dark brown waxy leather, that will age beautifully and was a good thickness for the style of the bag. After choosing the thread colour, we set off cutting, skiving and hand stitching. The handles on this one are rope handles, and the fixings chosen were brass Chicago screws which contrast really nicely with the dark brown leather. Again, we added a snaphook keyring which attached inside the bag, and a simple cardholder.
The end result was truly amazing. The make looks highly professional and combined with the quality leather and fixings, it’s a bag that will only get better with age and I hope will be used every day.
