The modern art of leather stamping and carving was a secret craft for centuries The beautiful art of carving leather is an old and versatile technique that can be found in many leather projects to enrich saddles, furnitures, personal accessories, musical instruments and other leatherwork.

For a very short time in October, Diamond Awl Workshop are offering one day courses to learn this wonderful technique of creating designs and impressions in leather with expert tutor Veronica Passos of Passos Leatherworks.

Veronica – a Brazilian Designer and Leatherworker, holds a Master degree in Fashion and Textile from the University of São Paulo USP and a bachelor degree in Fashion Design fom University Anhembi Morumbi UAM. Also she completed a specialised course in the footwear area from Senai Technical School in Brazil.

You will learn about leather preparation, embossing tools and other functions to perform this art to transfer your design to the leather, how to work with the swivel knife, how to reach a great shadows effects and also backgrounds.

The courses will be held at Diamond Awl Studios at Woodend Mill, Saddleworth.

Here a little about Veronica

Verônica Passos is a a Brazilian Designer and Leatherworker. She holds a Master degree in Fashion and Textile from the University of São Paulo USP and a bachelor degree in Fashion Design from University Anhembi Morumbi UAM. Also she completed a specialised course in the footwear area from Senai Technical School in Brazil. Verônica started to work with leather in 2010 when she was invited to work as shoe designer in a small shoe factory in São Paulo. Since then she has developed her passion about leather goods and handmade works which motivated her to study old manual techniques of leatherwork, carving, lacing and hand stitching.

Today she owns a brand called Passos Leatherworks dedicated to the creation of unique leather objects made by hand in order to promote these ancient leather techniques and apply them to new products and other areas.

This year Verônica work was recognized as part of the new generation of Brazilian leather designers by the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil), that promotes the Brazilian leather internationally.
